I imagine Maria, a flirty, well-constructed maid/waitress added to the charm of the meal, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Why am I not surprised by that, Ray smile ? Actually, it was usually a comfortably upholstered small lady of uncertain years - also adding to the charm of the meal!

This looks very much like a restaurant we dined in this past November. Buzzino. It was run by a father and son. I imagine at one time the elder was in charge, but for our visit he spent much of the time yelling at Busconi on TV, and some time sleeping in the corner where your visitors are seated here!
Tom Wilson: This was Il Cavallino - in one corner of the Piazza della Signoria - still there and presumably still flourishing.

Pity there aren't more people there Tom that's not you in the corner.
Tom Wilson: We were having a very early lunch, Peter - avoiding the crowds!
We were in Florence during the 80's also, Tom, and could have very well have dined at this restaurant, as well. It does look familiar.
Tom Wilson: It's still there on the Piazza della Signoria (where the copy of David stands) - it's called Il Cavallino.

I expect it would look quite different today Tom. This is a good record of that time.
Tom Wilson: I suspect it is pretty much the same, Chad - there's not a great deal of tarting up done in the Italian restaurant business smile
I can just imagine some lovely Italian food being served up in this delightful little restaurant.
Tom Wilson: Their pasta dishes were certainly special, Brian.
Is it still there Tom or just a memory?
Tom Wilson: Yes, Ristorante Il Cavallino on the main square in Florence, the Piazza della Signoria, is still there, Bill - and probably still doing good business!
