photoblog image Shugborough Hall

Shugborough Hall

Site of the Shutterchance outing on Sunday 20 March - which turned out to be a beautiful day.  This shot was taken with the Samyang 8mm fish-eye lens, which I used for internal shots in the house.   The Hall is the family home of the Earls of Lichfield, now in the process of being taken over by the National Trust. The previous Earl was Patrick Lichfield (or, rather, Patrick Anson, Lord Lichfield), noted society and fashion photographer.  His mother was of the Bowes Lyon family (the present Queen's mother was of the same family) so, apart from his position in the nobility, he had close relations with the royal family (some said very close relations with Princess Margaret in particular :-)  )

Good use of that lens, Tom [rumour monger extraordinaire!]. smile
Tom Wilson: Oh, the rumours were around long before I heard of them! Thanks, Ray.

I was so busy I never had chance to go into the house Tom. Maybe next time..
Tom Wilson: It was worth the visit and, as the NT is taking over shortly, it'll be free - assuming you are a member.
Cracking picture Tom. The exhibition of his pictures was well worth seeing
Tom Wilson: They were indeed, Bill - he certainly knew how to photograph beautiful women!
A fine place to meet up Tom.
Tom Wilson: An excellent choice, Chad.

A wonderful classical building with a noble history! But where are all the Shutterchancers?
Tom Wilson: I'd arrived early, had a cup of coffee and left my camera bag in the cafe - so I was separated from the rest. At this point they are somewhere in the extensive grounds!
What a fun lens to have. I would be glad of the fine weather so I would not have to go indoors.
Tom Wilson: Fortunately, we had the choice - fine weather outside and fine things inside!
The lens works well, Tom, it was good to see you and you good lady.
Tom Wilson: It works best inside - as you'll see smile It's a fairly cheap lens, too - not AF, but the depth of focus means you can set it to infinity and forget! Good to see you too, Frank - a pity Elizabeth has to go back this coming Sunday. Next time you'll have to show her the Peak District and Sheffield smile
I done a similar shot to this a few years ago but your fish-eye lens makes it so much easier.
Tom Wilson: The 8mm is not a bad price either - not AF so, as far as the Fuji is concerned, I'm "shooting without a lens" (!), but the depth of focus is such that you don't really need to focus! It comes into its own indoors, however, as we'll see.

A cracking view, Tom. I was indifferent about going in the house but I'm glad I did in the end. I especially liked the studio set up and a selection of his prints and also his private quarters; the breakfast room in particular.
Tom Wilson: He certainly knew how to take pics, Alan! Yes - I agree about his private apartment - very nice! I understand that the present Earl has done a deal with the NT about his! Found this on Amazon, so it's on its way to me smile http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lichfield-Retrospect-Patrick/dp/0881623326/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1458685938&sr=8-4&keywords=Patrick+Lichfield
