Textile Museum 1

I had never known that Ludwig Bemelmans had produced textile designs - I knew him as the author of "Hotel Splendide" and he is perhaps best remembered as the author of the Madeline picture book series, but this was one of his designs for the fabric manufacturer Wesley Simpson of New York, in the 1940s.

The Textile Design and Engineering Department at the University of Borås is, in effect, the national school of textile design and its museum, based in a former textile factory, had an exhibition of "artists and textiles", of which this was one.  More to come.

Je trouve cette robe un peu bizarre.
Tom Wilson: Ce fut la haute couture des années 1940 - au moins aux Etats-Unis
A fine harmony between the blouse and the the wall Tom!
Tom Wilson: Indeed it is.

Simple and elegant with a rather mad animal design
Tom Wilson: I imagine it would still be thought stylish today!
Very stylish but I would need a much larger size
Tom Wilson: Ah! The problems faced by the cross-dresser!
I loves ome of the old vintage textiles and will enjoy this.
Tom Wilson: Some interesting ones coming up smile

an elegant robe - and the design of it matches the design of the wall.
Tom Wilson: Yes, indeed - the wall hanging was another fabric design by Bemelmans.
