May Day 3

The high school band waiting for the parade to start.  Sweden has specialised high schools of various kinds, e.g., for art, music, etc.  This is the band of the local "Kulturskola" where the curriculum covers art, dance, music, and circus - among other things!

I think it's a wonderful idea - to focus on a kids' talents and interests! Nice shot!
Tom Wilson: Some years ago I attended a show put on by students at such a school in Gothenburg and they were brilliant!

Ok...a whole gaggle of youngsters here, Tom...
Tom Wilson: Not one over 18 I'd guess, Ray smile

That's very enlightened, Tom
Tom Wilson: The Swedish educational system is in trouble - mainly as a result of the free school notion that Gove picked up from them when he was Minister of Education - but this is one of the better aspects of the state system.

Une petite pause pour reprendre de plus belle.
Tom Wilson: Indeed, Martine!
They seem being in their own world Tom!
Tom Wilson: Focussed, Richard smile
Circus, too??? Wouldn't that be a hoot, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Yup - presumably there are kids who go into that area, or perhaps into theatre, using their circus skills where appropriate.

Just imagine the advantages of attending a high school where you can play to your strengths at that age Tom. This must give children a huge advantage over such places as the UK where all & sundry are shoved into ghastly comprehensive one-size-fits-all establishments
Tom Wilson: Yes, the Swedes had a perfect good state system and then the politicians ruined it in the name of choice and established the "free school" notion, which is now coming to grief.
Leave out the dance and circus and I would have liked to have gone there, Tom...smile
Tom Wilson: Well, you'd have been able to pick your specialised track, Frank.
Yesterday my son told me of going to his daughter's band concert and how awful it was to sit through an hour of this common elementary school performance. He then said to me how much you have to love your kid to do this year after year. I smiled, thinking of all the years I did the same for him.
Tom Wilson: Now he's learning, eh?

They probably got the steakhouse to provide their jackets smile It is always a thing of joy to me to see youngsters mastering all kinds of orchestral instruments. The band leader is tall enough, to oversee the band in one glance.
Tom Wilson: They did a good job, Louis.
Clearly military discipline is not one of the subjects Tom.
Tom Wilson: Not in this school, Chad - but there is probably one somewhere around that specialises in preparation for military service!
they look quite relaxed Tom... i'm sure that they are very good musicians from the school of music....petersmile
Cool! Learning circus at school...
