Goodness! That's some kitchen!! I love how light and airy it is!
Tom Wilson: It was a sizeable kitchen, Elizabeth - high-ceilinged too, so I guess it wasn't too bad to work in during the summer.

Les cuisines ont bien évolué depuis ce temps-là .
Tom Wilson: They have indeed, Martine!
I know a couple people now who would LOVE to have a kitchen like this, Tom. And btw, you nailed it.
Tom Wilson: I'm not sure they'd like all the work of keeping the fire going, cleaning it up, etc., etc. smile

Just think of the heat in here Tom..
Tom Wilson: It probably wasn't too bad, Chris - high ceiling, big windows to open - sticky on a few weeks of the year, I imagine - but the family might have escaped somewhere else over the summer smile

I bet it wasn't quite as spotless in those days, Tom
Tom Wilson: Probably not, Lisl!
I would imagine that the spit was great for cooking meat Tom.
Tom Wilson: And look at the size of that drip pan!

Very attractive kitchen, Tom.

Love the vintage microwave oven over there on the right!
Tom Wilson: Nothing new under the sun, Ray smile
A very well organized kitchen Tom!
Tom Wilson: To feed the entire family and staff, I guess it had to be, Richard.
Far superior to the modern fitted kitchen
Tom Wilson: Well, different, at least smile
It would be cozy in winter, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Very much so, Frank!
All that shiny copper takes the authenticity away. My pots have copper bottoms and even after copper polishing, they look used.
Tom Wilson: I imagine that some of the stuff was never actually used.

That is quite the kitchen...
That is quite the apparatus to roast some deer or pigs...
Tom Wilson: Well, when you've got a big family and servants to feed... not to mention the weekending visitors smile

I remember the dramatic kitchen scenes in "Downton Abbey".
Tom Wilson: I gave up on that after series one smile
I always enjoy the kitchens at NT houses....I suspect my ancestors were all below stairs grin
Tom Wilson: I know that most of mine were in jobs like stonemason, shoemaker, agric. lab., tenant farmer - the stonemason worked on Greystoke Castle - the nearest we got to nobility smile
One wonders how they managed to cook these multi-course banquets back in the old days.
Now that's what I call an oven!
