Saltram - living room

I assume it was the "living room" - pretty grand living!

The Parlour...clearly a place set out for parlour games, Tom.
Tom Wilson: You could just about play hide and seek in a place this size! smile

Grand but hardly comfy. That's the trouble with large houses, as Alan & I found at Sherborne Castle last week
Tom Wilson: Yes - I wonder where the comfortable places were - probably in the bedrooms, I suspect.
Not subtle is it?
Tom Wilson: I don't think the rich have ever been noted for their subtlety - if you've got it, flaunt it, seems to be the motto! smile

or the drawing room - there are some exciting paintings at the wall. Saltram House is a real treasure house.
Tom Wilson: Indeed - at the time they probably even gave it its full name of the "withdrawing" room smile Yes, there were some fine paintings too.
Quite impressive indeed Tom!
Tom Wilson: Amazing what one can do with money smile
So old fashioned is the first thing that comes to mind.
Tom Wilson: Presumably pretty much as it was in the 19th century, Mary.
A fine room and lovely contents, but I often wonder if one could actually feel comfortable in a room such as this.
Tom Wilson: I suspect it was only used on fairly formal occasions, Brian.
Very beautiful.
