Obidos - Santuario do Senhor Jesus da Pedra

This 'sanctuary' is a little way outside the city of Obidos. It was built in 1747 - the architect was Captain Rodrigo Franco, which perhaps means that he was an army architect. Unfortunately it was closed so I didn't get to see the three chapels inside.

C'est un très bel édifice. Dommage qu'il ne soit pas restauré.
Tom Wilson: Oui, tres bel!

No matter..the outside is quite impressive, Tom.
Tom Wilson: A very different style of architecture.
It looks an amazing building, though, Tom... we can only imagine what's inside!
Tom Wilson: Next time, perhaps - if I manage to get back to Portugal!

It looks intriguing, maybe next time Frank?
Tom Wilson: Who's this Frank fella? smile
Quite an unusual architecture Tom!
Tom Wilson: Rather different, isn't it?

Good to see all this "different" architecture, Tom
Tom Wilson: Looks more like a castle than a religious building, doesn't it? Perhaps the architect was in the army.
A trinity of chapels, pity you could not see them Tom, but an interesting building you show here.
Tom Wilson: The advantage of it being closed was that the bus trips weren't in smile
Unusual shape and very attractive.
Tom Wilson: Yes, very distinctive - one can see it from the city walls of Obidos - it pulls the eye.
AS fine building that looks as though it could do with a bit of a spruce up.
Tom Wilson: Yes, needs some restoration.
It is a rather handsome building Tom but looks rather neglected
Tom Wilson: Yes, needs sprucing up a bit!
