photoblog image Lisbon- Praça do Comércio - colonnade.

Lisbon- Praça do Comércio - colonnade.

The Praça do Comércio is the grandest of Lisbon's squares, originally occupied, when it was rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1755, by port and customs authorities and later by government ministries (I believe one of them is still there).  Now it is restaurants, apartments, etc. and, the Lisbon pousada - a very grand place.

C'est magnifique. Dommage qu'il y ait les barrières.
Tom Wilson: Merci, Martine. Oui, malheureusement, avec la police debout là, je ne pouvais pas déplacer les barrières! smile
I love the warm tones!
Tom Wilson: A bit of processing there to warm things up smile

Excellent!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ray.
I like light of this corridor. Beautiful
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Marie - the light in Lisbon is always special smile
What a beautiful and impressive perspective Tom!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Richard.
I love the covered walkways one sees in hot climates Tom.
Tom Wilson: It's all very sensible - Bologna is noted for them and we could do with them to keep off the rain!

It looks very grand and inviting Tom
Tom Wilson: It's certainly both of those things, Chris smile

Tom Wilson: This image gives a good idea of the scale:

- the colonnade I picture is to the left of the arch, and the pousada we stayed in is the building on the lift with the crane looming over it smile
The yellow light is excellent.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Mary.

From here the argument of it being a grand square, is supported smile
Tom Wilson: Couldn't take a pic of the square because it was full of all kinds of stuff for the celebration of Lisbon's saint's day and some other celebration smile
I imagine the apartments don't come cheap!
Tom Wilson: Not cheap but a good deal cheaper than the equivalent in, say, London! In fact Lisbon is currently noted for the relatively low cost of apartments - given the way it is growing, however, that may change!
I know this sounds silly, but the tones remind me of curry...
