I am impressed with the extensive, outside use of ceramics in this country, Tom.
Tom Wilson: In this case it's basalt and limestone - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_pavement
Very nice detail, Tom, even the grid fits in.
Tom Wilson: Cleverly done!
What superb mosaics !
Tom Wilson: A disappearing craft, it seems: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_pavement

All very agreeable Tom, looks like a representation of spurting water
Tom Wilson: Virtually all of Lisbon's pavements and those in many other parts of the country are like this:

A delightful design Tom, and I like the way they incorporated the inspection cover.
Tom Wilson: Nicely done, eh?
This reminds me of Australia and their use of tiles .
Tom Wilson: Lot of Portuguese in Australia smile Perhaps that's where the idea came from!
Almost too nice to walk on.
Tom Wilson: Certainly too slippy in the wet, Brian!
it is nicely done, Tom. for some reason, fleur de lys came to my mind.
Tom Wilson: I see the similarity, Ayush.

A lot of work has gone into that. If pavements are dug up for utility work for example, is the original design relaid?
Tom Wilson: Indeed it has, Alan - and, yes, the original design is usually relaid - you can see gangs of men doing the job around the place. I believe somewhere like Barnsley got workers in from Portugal to do something similar because no one in this country had the skills smile
A rather fine Mosaic Tom.
Tom Wilson: Lots of 'em on the streets, Bill. I have a huge volume of 600 pages of mainly photographs devoted to the subject! Empredados artisticos de Lisboa - this design is apparently called "Aranha"
