Bacalhoa winery-African Head

Another bit of Berardo's art collection on display at the winery. A rather grumpy looking personage.

...didn't like the Shiraz...
Tom Wilson: Not a grape that's used much in Portugal, Ray, except in small amounts added to the indigenous varieties they use - one of the things that makes their wines appealing. I noticed for example that one of their best wines had 10% Syrah (Shiraz) and another had some Cabernet Sauvignon.
I like this african head and african art also. Have a good day Tom !
Tom Wilson: Merci, Marie - interessant, n'est pas?
Elle a une mine boudeuse.
Tom Wilson: C'est ce que je pensais!

A very haughty image Tom

This looks like something from the 1960s Tom.
Tom Wilson: Interesting essay on the impact on European art in the early 20th century here: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/aima/hd_aima.htm
He may prefer Africa's climate.
Tom Wilson: He, he! Yup- Lisbon's winters can be chilly smile
Somehow I feel he wasn't having a good day when this likeness was sculpted smile
Tom Wilson: Looks like a bad hair day, too smile
Perhaps he was a teetotaller
Tom Wilson: Mmm - perhaps that's disapproval!

I can just imagine someone buying this and taking it home and then the reaction "You are NOT bringing that thing into this house!".
Tom Wilson: "Especially when it's got 'Made in China' on the back!"

An impressive facial expression, he seems to be thinking about a problem.
Tom Wilson: An early version of Rodin's "The Thinker" smile
