Gulbenkian-glass vessel

I've called it a "glass vessel" - because I can't remember what it was called and where it was from - possibly Venetian (because of the rather badly conceived lion!) or perhaps Middle Eastern.  Could be 14th/15th century.

It is a lovely thing, Tom.

Thai Buddhists use a similarly shaped vessel in a ritual involving the pouring of water.
Tom Wilson: Beautiful, isn't it - possible a wine flask.
Whatever, it's a wonderful thing, Tom.
Tom Wilson: The Gulbenkian is a place of wonders, Frank smile

The lion looks surprised Tom

I expect we'd all be surprised by its value..
Tom Wilson: Well an early 20th century piece of Tiffany glass would go for somewhere around $4000 - so I guess this would go for rather more!
Painted glass, is it?
Tom Wilson: I don't think it is painted, Mary - I think the colours are actually in the glass. Wikipedia has a good article on Venetian glass making: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venetian_glass
Not the sort of piece one would find at the local auctioneers I would think.
Tom Wilson: Unlikely by now, I think, Brian - if you happen to see anything like it - grab it!
beautiful regardless of its provenance...
Tom Wilson: Yes, a lovely piece.
Gorgeous!!!
