Another Turner

Very different from the last!  This is a detail from his painting, The Wreck of a Transport Ship. There's a short article about the painting here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/art/art-reviews/10472760/Turner-and-the-Sea-The-National-Maritime-Museum-review.html

Well that's tragic!
Tom Wilson: Amazing painting, isn't it?

You can see the horror of it all so clearly..
Tom Wilson: Just shows what a genius Turner was!
He certainly captures the drama very well Tom. I am amazed at how artists captured such scenes without photographic help or personal experience.
Tom Wilson: Astonishing, isn't it - reminds me of Gericault's Wreck of the Medusa.

Such a lot of detail - the painter draws one into the tragedy.
Tom Wilson: Old JMWT knew what he was about.
All the drama. An amazing picture
Tom Wilson: Great artistic imagination!

I watched the film "Mr Turner" just two days ago. Well recommended if you haven't seen it
Tom Wilson: I've got it recorded - will probably watch it tonight. By coincidence I'm reading Bloodhounds, by Peter Lovesey, which is set in Bath and features a watercolour by Turner smile
It is similar though in that it is an angry sea depicted.
Tom Wilson: Indeed! He was great on angry seas smile And weather, too.
So much fine detail, it's almost like watching the tragedy happen in real life.
Tom Wilson: He must have had a vivid imagination!
Amazing detail, Tom, it seems a strange thing to paint though....
Tom Wilson: Artists find the oddest things to represent, Frank - I imagine that he made money from prints of his paintings and there's nothing the public like more than a gory story!
this is a very dramatic scene Tom...
i just searched online for Turner and The Sea and found the full painting of The Wreck of a Transport Ship... it's a magnificent painting...

your framing of this portions reveals the distress of the sailors and is displayed very well as it is....petersmile
