No doubt the whole story can be decoded via the symbols on what looks like a giant Russian doll
Tom Wilson: I suspect that the pictures tell stories of the gods, perhaps in the hope that the inhabitant of the coffin will be allowed to persist in the after-life.

You visited some musea in Lisboa. We have also a 'mummy' in Münster which was exhibited for some weeks.
Tom Wilson: Yes, I hadn't realised that the archaeological museum occupies one wing of the the Jeronimos Monastery, so was happy to spend time there.
Nice details of this beautiful sarcophage
