Lipchitz

Head of the cubist sculptor, Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973), which stands beside his house in Druskininkai.  He was born in the town, but spent most of his career first in Paris and then, at the outbreak of war, in the USA.  The house is now a Lipchitz Museum.

Cripes...it looks yuge [as POTUS#45 might say]!
Tom Wilson: Indeed he might - it just looks big because it is a close up smile However, it is bigger than life-size, I think.

I've just been looking at some of his sculptures Tom, he certainly had an individualistic style which you couldn't call bland or uninteresting
Tom Wilson: Indeed he did - I see that his work still brings in good prices at auction - e.g., drawings at up to $3,000

avery impressive sculpture - I have to confess that I never heard of him - one of the many Jewish life stories! Next time I'll be in the Kröller-Müller- Museum in NL I have to look out for his artwork.
Tom Wilson: He was quite famous in his day - but cubism has long been out of favour, I think.
This appeals to me very much.
Tom Wilson: You'd probably like Lipchitz's work then.
Either this is a close-up or it is a very large sculpture.
Tom Wilson: The former, Brian smile But bigger than life-size.
extra cette sculpture!! amitiés
Tom Wilson: Merci, Jean Pierre.

I'm not surprised that I've never heard of him but I am surprised that Philine has not heard of him. either. Difficult to get a scale of the size of this but I'm guessing at around 5 metres or so?
Tom Wilson: He was very well known in his day. Without a scale it is difficult to tell, but, from another image I have, I'd guess that the head is a little less than 1 metre wide.
An imposing figure...
Tom Wilson: It is indeed!
