Čiurlionis

Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911) - Lithuanian artist, composer and writer - of whom practically no one outside of Lithuania, and perhaps Russia and Poland, will have heard.  However, he was one of the pioneers of modern art and, in his short life, turned out 400 musical compositions and 300 paintings, as well as works of literature and poetry.  He is enormously influential in Lithuanian culture. He was born near Druskininkai and this statue stands in the park in the town centre. As you see, it was a rainy day!

There's a Website devoted to him, which has examples of his photography:  http://ciurlionis.eu/en/

Nice statue, Tom, I think the rain adds to it.
Tom Wilson: I think you are right, there, Frank. There's a Website devoted to him, which has examples of his photography: http://ciurlionis.eu/en/

Well if he was a master of all those things there's no wonder he had influence Tom
Tom Wilson: He also had a crack at photography. There's a Website devoted to him, which has examples of his photography: http://ciurlionis.eu/en/
prolific indeed! i liked the stark contrast of the photographs. the statue goes well with the tall, leafless trees.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ayush
Rather a strange sculpture isn't it.
Tom Wilson: Unusual, certainly.
What a prolific fellow!
Tom Wilson: Amazingly so!

This is some wonderful sculpture. I will look at the link and look at his photography.
Tom Wilson: You might enjoy his music, too: this is a beautiful piece, played by a young Lithuanian virtuoso:
