Christ Statue

Head of a very fine sculpture above the main door of St Mary's church in Druskininkai, by the Lithuanian sculptor Juozapas Kestutis Patamsis (1939-2007) - took me ages to discover the sculptor - no English language site about the Church mentions him at all!  He was Lithuanian junior boxing chamption :-) And SC doesn't like Lithuanian diacritics, so I've had to remove them :-)  The sculpture dates from 1992.

Not the happiest bloke on this occasion.
Tom Wilson: All is explained tomorrow, Ray smile
It makes you wonder why everything about this is so disproportionate, Tom???? (Yes, I notice things like that.)
Tom Wilson: Artistic license, I guess, Ginnie smile

Nice head: hollow eyed, determined, unmoveable..
Tom Wilson: Sombre!
This statue of Jesus looks rather stern one judgemental Tom, not the usual image we see.
Tom Wilson: Yes, quite unusual, and all the more interesting for that, I think Chad.
imposante statue!! amitiés
Tom Wilson: Merci, Jean Pierre
The images of the Christ to the European, that they are catholic, Protestant or other, are totally ridiculous as far as the Christ being Jewish could not really be fair as he is often represented, nor with a clear face.
It's a pity that the historians and the various religions did not correct it because I am shocked every time of little of respect for the marks determining the membership in a race. Why to want to give to Jesus the face of an European one or a white simply?

Your photo is excellent but the statue does not reflect the reality of the fact that could be the real Jesus.
Very striking... and thought provoking...

Not your standard pain and suffering face - a bit more like when he spoke to the Pharisees.
