Antakalnis Cemetery - 2

Antanas Snieckus, was First Secretary of the Lithuanian Communist Party from 1940 to 1974. There's an interesting biography of him in Wikipedia, which notes, among other things:

"Snieckus was the initiator of the first mass deportations of Lithuanians on 14–19 June 1941. He even had his own brother, with his family, deported to Siberia, where his brother died."

Sounds like a nice guy...
Tom Wilson: Oh indeed! He ruled Lithuania with a rod of iron!
Seems a pleasant fellow....
Tom Wilson: Just the kind you'd want as a brother smile

I am guessing not many tears were shed when he was placed here, Tom.
Tom Wilson: I suspect not - but, as Lithuania was still within the USSR at the time, I imagine there was a big turn out of the Communist officials smile

And yet he seems to be honoured.......
Tom Wilson: Perhaps by family or old Party faithfuls?

He sounds ghastly, another Russian puppet
Tom Wilson: He was indeed - but he made powerful friends in the Communist hierarchy and, before his end, took some actions to preserve Lithuanian "independence" within the Union.
He sounds a bit of a rotter.
Tom Wilson: Masterly English understatement, Chad! smile
An unpleasant man from an unpleasant time
Tom Wilson: Totally ruthless, as far as one can gather.
charmant bonhomme!!!!! amitiés
Tom Wilson: Ah! Oui... ou peut-être non! Merci, Jean Pierre!
