Farne Islands Lighthouse

The lighthouse on Inner Farne, built in 1811 - with nesting Kittiwakes on the cliffs. Not the Longstone Lighthouse, which is on another island, further out into the North Sea, forever associated with the story of Grace Darling.

The Kittiwakes seem to be ding a fine job of whitewashing those cliffs, Tom.
Tom Wilson: They've been doing so for generations now, Ray - and will probably keep it up, climate change permitting smile (Unless, as Trump believes, climate change is a Chinese scam!)
You and Alan are in lighthouse mode today Tom
Tom Wilson: I'll check him out!

Generations of kittiwakes have left their mark
Tom Wilson: They have indeed! I wonder if it is collected as fertiliser, like guano?

a fascinating coast with the white lighthouse- yes, I remember the story of Grace Darling. A fine image taken from a ship?
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Philine - taken from the facing shore with my little Panasonic at maximum zoom - this lighthouse guides the passage between the islands and the coast.
Jolie vue sur ce phare !
Tom Wilson: Merci, Martine.
What a place! Great photo!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth

Thank you for reminding me of the story of Grace Darling.
Tom Wilson: A tale never forgotten in the North-east, Chad. We learned about it in primary school smile
I'm presuming this is the lighthouse one can see from Seahouses Tom.
Tom Wilson: It is indeed, Brian.
did they chuck the excess white paint over the cliff, Tom? smile
Tom Wilson: I think that can be described as Kittiwake cliff art smile
I like the way you composed this view. There are so many birds nesting, it amazes me.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chad - there are about 10,000 kittiwakes on the islands. Ooops - misread the name there!
superbe ce phare!! amitiés
Tom Wilson: Merci beaucoup, Jean Pierre
