Rasos cemetery

As you can see much of the cemetery is in need of restoration.  They are working on it, starting with the chapels - as in yesterday's pic, and larger mausoleums, but there's obviously a lot of work to be done to get it to the state of the Antakalnis cemetery.

Well...I like it, as is, Tom...best to let Nature manage the cemeteries.
Tom Wilson: Looks like that is the way things are going.

I hardly ever saw a cemetery on such a hill. That will be a lot of work to restore this place and where to start...Wonderful point of view though.
Tom Wilson: Both of the cemeteries are on hills, some of them pretty steep, too! In this one there was barely an area that was really flat!
I love your angle and view for this, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth.

Pretty unloved from the look of things..
Tom Wilson: Yes, apart from the chapels and larger mausoleums, the place is running wild.

The trees can be cut down but the roots are a nuisance and very difficult to get out.
Tom Wilson: True enough - but I think they'd want to keep the trees, which are typical for Lithuanian cemeteries.
I love when the old graveyards are fixed up.
Tom Wilson: I'm not sure how much progress they have made with this one - but, it is on the tourist trail, so presumably they are working on it.
I guess it's the need for time, volunteers and money to take on a big project like this.
Tom Wilson: It would need quite a workforce to get it tidied up!
Sadly neglected but worth restoring I would think
Tom Wilson: It is an enormous cemetery, with a road running through it - I suspect that they are going to concentrate on restoring the major monuments, like the chapel I showed yesterday.
