photoblog image Vilnius - the River Vilnia

Vilnius - the River Vilnia

This river runs past the foot of the Hill of Three Crosses and this view is, prhaps, no more than 500 metres from the city centre.  The Vilnia flows into the River Neris close to the city centre. It rises close to the border with Belarus and for part of its route forms the border.  The River Neris rises is Belarus and eventually becomes a tributary of the River Nemunas at Kaunas.

It has the appearance of being more of a fast-flowing canal than a river, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Not really, Ray - canal banks are much more "constructed" than what you see here.

And from what I can see the water looks to be nice & clear too Tom
Tom Wilson: Yes, it looks very clean.
Vilnius seems to be a very pleasant place Tom
Tom Wilson: It's the usual mix of the ancient and modern, Bill - but the ancient is well worth a visit.
Nicely framed, Tom. A nice bridge too, with a roof?
Tom Wilson: Yes - a covered bridge - unusual!
What a delightful little spot.
Tom Wilson: It was a very pleasant walk along the river bank, so close to the city centre.

How green must the city be with this in its close environs
Tom Wilson: Yes, it's pretty green, and if you look at the satellite view on Google maps you'll see that it surrounded by more greenery!
i imagine local residents fancy a picnic once in a while here, Tom?
Tom Wilson: I wouldn't be at all surprised, Ayush - certainly there were walkers smile
It does look rather pleasant
Tom Wilson: A pleasant walk after climbing up and down the Hill of Three Crosses!
