photoblog image Dogs

Dogs

Detail from a painting by George Stubbs, 1766-67.  The painting is of the 3rd Duke of Portland (twice Prime Minister, once in 1783, and again 1807-1809), but I thought the dogs were more interesting :-)

i agree with you, Tom. Mr Stubbs has captured the essence of the dogs realistically.

The dogs are excellent, Tom.
Tom Wilson: One gets the impression that Stubbs was more attracted by the dogs than by their master smile
It is a fine detail Tom
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Bill

Great detail and I often think dogs are more interesting than people.
That is quite the painting...

Tom Wilson: Money, power, prestige... all in there.
Often the animals in such paintings ARE more interesting, Tom. Your image is a case in point.

I find it interesting how many of the royalty type paintings of a scene have dogs in them. Lovely mutts.

I tell you Tom, that bloke could paint.
Tom Wilson: He certainly could - in fact, I think his dogs are better than his horses!

Tom Wilson: Merci, Jean Pierre.
Those dogs have been painted very well.
Tom Wilson: Full of life, aren't they?
the dogs are much more interesting Tom... i didn't realize that they chained them together like that... it can be dangerous for the dogs....petersmile
The dogs are in perfect position for their breeds.
It looks like the painting was damaged...
