Preservation Hall

New Orleans - home of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. This was taken in 2011 - my only previous visit was in 1970 and, sadly, the quality of the jazz had declined since then, and the commercialisation of the venue had increased.  The band I saw in 1970 was that shown on the Billie-De De album cover :-)  "Billie" was Billie Pierce - the lady in white, pianist and vocalist, "De De" was De De Pierce, trumpeter and cornetist.

Return visits can be a let-down...
Tom Wilson: Indeed - and it was a long gap! I've sorted the Youtube link now - it's working smile
I like this eclectic collection, Tom!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth - you can now see the video smile

It looks scruffy Tom, but that matters not a jot, especially if the music is good , like in the video.
Tom Wilson: Very scruffy - and that hadn't changed at all smile The music was good, but you were restricted to a single session of about 45 minutes - in 1970 you went in at the start and could stay till one in the morning, or whenever the band decided to quit!

Interesting!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Anne.
The building itrself looks to be very old Tom, a nice memory for you.
Tom Wilson: It certainly is, Brian - a dilapidated building in the old French Quarter - originally from 1803, but burnt and rebuilt about 1817
I have a friend vacationing there now and saw some of the shenanigans on FF yesterday.
Tom Wilson: It's still a fascinating place to visit - a city with character!
In a way Rock music is like Jazz. The greats are dying out and what is coming is not as good
Tom Wilson: All things have their moment smile
