Peregrine

Not a very good pic, but I thought SCers would be interested. Taken as a screen shot yesterday from the camera on the old St. George's Church in Sheffield (now a university lecture theatre) - watch out for the birds at http://peregrine.group.shef.ac.uk/

Oh isn't it terrific to have them there!
Tom Wilson: They certainly help to keep the pigeon population down smile

Very interesting to me, Tom.
Tom Wilson: This looks as though it may be the female, bigger than the male - she's probably waiting for him to turn up.
Lisl enjoys this kind of bird watching, Tom. I bet you both could swap stories.
Tom Wilson: There are some interesting sites on the Web with cameras.

It's great to see Peregrines once more colonising our towns & high buildings Tom. We certainly have a pair here in Bath
Tom Wilson: I'm sure this is not the only pair in Sheffield, because they've been raising chicks successfully for some time now.

In and around Cape Town there is quite a number of peregrine breeding pairs - utilising big buildings and rock faces of the mountains.
Tom Wilson: Their favourite places!

How fortunate you were to see this, Tom
Tom Wilson: It's interesting to watch them in the breeding season.

Did you tell it to “watch the birdie” Tom?
Tom Wilson: Of course, but it took no notice!
I believe they have a Peregrine nest high up on the cathedral in Derby, there is a webcam at https://www.derby.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/conservation/peregrines/peregrine-camera-1/
Tom Wilson: Thanks for the link, Brian - there's a bird in residence right now!
Fluffing up the feathers - either windy or cold.
Tom Wilson: Windy on this occasion, Mary.
Wonderful birds...pigeons beware !
Tom Wilson: Oh, yes - they do a good job in keeping the population under control!
