photoblog image Laddie

Laddie

This is a scanned print from many years ago.  Laddie was a dog I had as a boy and I suspect that this was taken with my first camera, a cheap box camera bought in, I think, 1950.  Laddie was a lovely mongrel: with Alsatian (German Shepherd in America), Chow, and Border Collie in its make-up.  You can see the curly tail of the Chow, and the colouring of the Collie.  Beyond the fence was a farmer's field, which sometimes had a flock of sheep in it - true to his genes, Laddie would occasionally manage to get into the field and round up the sheep, shepherding them down to the farmyard.

fantastic film photograph

Laddie was beautiful !

(he reminds me of my first dog, a Sheltie mix)
Tom Wilson: Amazing considering what a cheap little camera it was - a kind of very inferior Kodak Brownie smile

We have had a number of Border Collies over the years. That shepherding instinct is well ingrained.
Tom Wilson: Even in one diluted like this!

Always a sad experience when our first pets die Tom.
Tom Wilson: And also for those that follow - they become family members.

I liked reading your anecdote and I can imagine how you loved this dog - the old photos have a special charm.
Tom Wilson: He was a great dog.
Man alive, Tom. Were you even alive in 1950???? smile Amazing story from YOUR camera back then.
Tom Wilson: Oh indeed, Ginnie - I bought the camera when I was at school camp in Devon - age 15 smile
You are bringing back memories of my childhood too.
Tom Wilson: I think pets live forever in our memories smile
