Star and Garter

Another 'dead' pub - "The number of pubs closing in the UK has slowed to two per day after years of rapid decline, according to new figures." (The Drinks Business, Feb 18, 2018)  Interesting that two a day is not thought to be rapid!

i hope it doesn't sit empty for years
Tom Wilson: It will probably be demolished and some new housing built.

Depressing isn't it. In the 1970s there were many boozers in Bath where you could retire for a pint or two. Not many left now..
Tom Wilson: Very depressing!

Although I have always enjoyed pubs Tom, I could see the benefit of the more open style of brasserie as seen in Italy, where children can pop in for an ice cream, or a passerby a packet of fags, or a drink and a snack. Our pubs were always somewhat forbidding private looking establishments sometimes with a ‘clicky’ Clientele.
Tom Wilson: Traditionally, they were always male and adult, I think that is partly responsible for their demise - personally, I've never really used them, except for gastro-pubs smile
Times have changed and the pubs that have not changed have gone. Sad in a way but it doesn't seem to have stopped the ludicrous amounts being drunk in this country!
Tom Wilson: That's true, Bill - binge drinking seems to be a uniquely British affair!
i don't like the graffiti Tom... it's a shame that the pubs are being closed at such a rate....petersmile
Hopefully the good ones will survive, Tom, the times they are a changin', someone said. smile
I grew up in the UK (Newark) in the 90's. At that time every spare building, even the old post office, was being converted into a pub. I guess things go in cycles.
Sad to see.

The Pommies are stepping away from Booze?
Star and Garter - what a name!
It is a sad sight to see a closed pub but many of them, like two we used this week in the Peak District, are more like restaurants which is why we went to them.
