As you can see, this sculpture (dataing to approx. 2000 BC) is mainly reconstructed, with only part of one of the horns being original. The bull was sacred in Crete and in Knossos, presumably the consequence of the myth of the abduction of Europa by Zeus in the form of a bull, taking her to Crete. According to myth, Zeus was born on Crete, following the flight there of Rhea, his mother, from her husband Kronos. Kronos had swallowed all of his other children, it having been foretold that he would ultimately be usurped by one of them.
