Cargo bike

You have your morning run in the National Park and then you get back to your "cargo bike" to get back to work.  Bakfiets.nl is the company making these and this basic model (at least I think it is the basic) will set you back a little under 1600 Euro.  They're quite a common sight in the Netherlands, sometimes carrying kids, sometimes obviously being used as delivery vehicles, and other times just shopping. I can't imagine trying to use one of these in hilly Sheffield!

Je ne suis pas sûre que cela soit très maniable.
Tom Wilson: Oui, je le pensais aussi; mais ils sont très communs aux Pays-Bas.
Downhll, fine, but you'll never get back up, Tom smile
Tom Wilson: Not without the electric version!
It looks like it might be a little difficult to control... but perhaps not.
Tom Wilson: I thought so too, but it seems not - I guess the linkage between the handlebars and the front wheel must be pretty effective.

Tom Wilson: You could always wear a sou'wester!

With all that capacity in the "basket" the bike could get quite weighed down
Tom Wilson: Yes, indeed - I saw three kids in one on one occasion!
They definitely serve their purpose, Tom, but I still look twice every time I see kids in them.
Tom Wilson: Yes, I suspect it would be against the law in this country, Ginnie.

I've actually seen similar things to this in hilly Bath too Tom. But they might be electric-assisted..
Tom Wilson: Yes, they are on sale here and there are electric versions - for about £3K!

A very useful machine, serving the owner and the community.
Tom Wilson: Yes, ideal in flat Holland!
needs an electric assist ...smile
Tom Wilson: Yes, there are electric versions - at a cost! You could buy a small second hand car for the same amount!

I think this is a great invention and quite common here in Hollandshire...
Tom Wilson: They're available in the UK, too - from two Dutch makers - and Chris says he's seen them in Bath.

I have seen them in Germany and Belgium as well - also some other types of tented kiddie carriers. And they go quite fast.
Tom Wilson: They're certainly common in the Netherlands.
A bit like the old butchers bike I used to ride in my youth except that had a basket.

I have a problem with my SC blog at the moment, apologies if I appear to be a bit aloof with replies etc., hopefully it will be sorted soon.
Tom Wilson: You might call it an evolution of the butcher's bike, Brian smile
Her legs look very fit.
Tom Wilson: Runner's legs smile
A flatlands only vehicle
Tom Wilson: Unless it is electric - that would set you back more than £3000!
