Lincoln Memorial

Another slide from 1971.  Timely, as, at the moment I am reading "Lincoln: a life of purpose and power", by Richard Carwardine - formerly in the History Department in Sheffield, until he was elevated to Rhodes Prof. of American History at Oxford :-) No doubt the cars will be of interest to automobile buffs!

President Lincoln is another of those great historical enigmas. What would the US be like now had he not been assassinated?

Maybe one of these cars is a Lincoln?
Tom Wilson: And what would hé think of Trump and the party hé helped to found?

Always fascinating to see the cars, too, in these old slides
Tom Wilson: Différent from today aren’t they?
It wasn't a good decade for cars
Tom Wilson: That’s true!
Fine building isn't it. Just look at the length of that estate car, it definitely wouldn't get in my garage.
Tom Wilson: I had an Oldsmobile Delmont 88 which was about that size.

Crikey! The cars are HUGE! Art least by the time, the huge chrome pointy bits were no longer fashionable.
Tom Wilson: Indeed they were!

A fine composition - with the luxury limousines in the foreground!
Tom Wilson: Thank you, Philine
