"La Pinta" - 2

The caravel "La Pinta" was the fastest of Columbus's ships - it was the first to sight land on the voyage to the Americas - and could travel at the rate of about 10.5 knots - faster than a medium-sized merchant vessel of today, apparently. According to Wikipedia "the ship weighed approximately 60 tons with an estimated deck length of 17 meters (56 ft) and a width of 5.36 meters (17.6 ft). The crew size was 26 men under Captain Martín Alonso Pinzón."  So, a total of 27 men occupying a tiny amount of sheltered space.  A replica of the Niña also exists and sails around the world - both replicas were built in Brazil according to methods employed by the Portuguese in the 15th century.

A fine shot of the ship, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ray.
You did a great job of showing off the masts here Tom!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth.

Fascinating Tom: it's just on static display presumably?
Tom Wilson: It's usually static like this, Chris, but I believe that it is occasionally taken out to sea. The Niña replica apparently sails around the world as an educational vessel.

I like your point of view here. It's not the sort of ship I'd fancy going far in, especially in such cramped conditions. It;s good job, though, that others were more tolerant smile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Alan - when you see what's inside (tomorrow) your desire to sail with her would be even more unlikely smile
I would have remained in Sevilla, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Wise decision, Juan Carlos.
nice presenting
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chantal.
A very nice shot, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Mary.
Another great angle shot Tom.
Tom Wilson: Glad you like it, sir smile
This is a very fine presentation of this little ship Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Brian.
nice presentation of this historic ship Tom, even if she is a replica
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Bill - as you will see, it seems to be a pretty authentic replica, although the design had to be based on what was generally known about such ships as the Pinta disappeared during one of the several Atlantic crossings she subsequently made.

A phenomenal vessel that must have been the pride of the nation back then.
Tom Wilson: They certainly are still very proud of it in Baiona, Chad - there's an annual festival to commemorate its arrival!
She is simply beautiful Tom!
Tom Wilson: Yes - a rather nice ship.

When you compare it with the white modern boat behind and to the right ... there is no competition as to which holds the aesthetics. Ha! now which one am I supporting ... but iIthink us old school gits are on the same wavelength.
Tom Wilson: You're a man of taste, Richard smile
Bella........
Tom Wilson: Gracias, Andres.
Excellent capture & presentation, Tom. Would love to this ship in full sail.
