Blowin in the wind...
Tom Wilson: And manipulating it very effectively!
I love the stone image - and my isn't Susana wonderful!
Tom Wilson: She is indeed, Elizabeth - her equivalent here is Kathryn Tickell, who plays the Northumbrian small pipes - a much quieter instrument, intended for playing indoors: http://youtu.be/bWkmer6cgiM

Very nice too Tom: a sound that has travelled down through time to us
Tom Wilson: Indeed - there's something about the pipes that gets to the core of us, I think smile
Are you sure it isn't one of thopse ilicit smoking pipes Tom?
Tom Wilson: Well, I'm sure she gets high on it, Richard smile
The only pipes i can stand are Northumberland pipes which have a rather mellow sound
Tom Wilson: Yes - they're my favourite, too, Bill - saw the Kathryn Tickell band a couple of years ago at the Buxton festival.

Can listen to Pipers and pipe bands all day Tom Lovely.
Tom Wilson: The highland pipes are something of an acquired taste, I think - OK in the wild but a bit overwhelming indoors smile
Bagpipes are very popular in this part of the world too.
Tom Wilson: Yes - the Scottish influence smile
very nice crop...
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chantal.
she's good Tom. I guess you're familiar with Carlos Nuņez's work & driving force up there
Tom Wilson: Yes - another brilliant performer! I've seen his things on YouTube with the Chieftains - wonderful stuff!
nice shot..... the horrid sounds echoing through eternity smile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Rob - but, "horrid" - that's a bit harsh on the lady smile

I always thought that Scotland had a sole claim on the bagpipes but that is far from reality as you have shown Tom.
Tom Wilson: No - they're a very ancient instrument, found right across Europe - Nero is said not to have fiddled while Rome burnt but to have played the pipes - on which he was proficient apparently smile

Sounds more mellow than the Scottish bagpipes
Tom Wilson: A rather smaller set of pipes - only a couple of drones, I think - these things probably make a difference.

I'm off next week to see a Northumberland piper at the Albeburgh Festival. A bit different to this lady. The Gailician piper in your image appears to be inflated his moobs smile
Tom Wilson: Who is the piper you are going to see? I think you had a typo in your comment, but I got the point smile
