Kernave - reconstruction 2

One of the reconstructed buildings at Kernave.  There is also a very fine arachaeological musem in the village, which holds many of the artefacts found on the site, from Paleolithic times onwards.

Those spikes should keep the dragons from roosting on the roof, Tom.
Tom Wilson: No doubt planned for that very purpose, Ray smile

Jolie petite maison en rondins, j'aime beaucoup.
Tom Wilson: Merci, Marine/
It's an interesting design
Tom Wilson: A little different from the US settlers' log cabins smile

Well it looks solid enough, must be dark inside though
Tom Wilson: Indeed - I guess people went to bed early and got up early smile

That looks a sturdy and stable construction that should last a long time Tom.
Tom Wilson: Well, the originals lasted long enough for these structures to be based on what was left.
The company I used to work for built log cabins....they were timber framed and clad with logs though with all mod cons
Tom Wilson: I understand it can be a very good form of structure and with modern technology probably quick to produce.
Back in the old days people must have been clever to even think about how to build these sort of houses.
Tom Wilson: Trial and error, I guess, Brian smile
I like how the window is formed between the two logs, without need of a frame.
Tom Wilson: No glass at the time - or at least not sufficient for the average home to have glass windows, so I guess a small hole in the wall was the sensible way to go smile
i see the new roof Tom... that is quite the architecture for a log cabin.....petersmile
Tom Wilson: No doubt the residence of someone who could afford the best smile
