Such grand architecture needs the large open space in front
Tom Wilson: It's very imposing - I had had the impression, from listening to war time broadcasts, that Stuttgart had been flattened - but evidently not!

Heavens above, this is wonderful
Tom Wilson: A beautiful location indeed.
There is no escaping that monument
Tom Wilson: It provides a nice point of interest.

As a child one would not see grassy areas covered in sitting people like this Tom. Perhaps in the evening or weekend there might be a few families taking a picnic in the park. I still find this fascinating. I think that my father, born 1884, would be horrified at the sight.
Tom Wilson: True enough, Chad - a lot has changed in the past 50 years or so - I showed a picture some time back of my father and my uncle and myself on the beach at Whitley Bay - both of them in suits and wearing caps!
As you'll know by now I did visit this square some years ago, this is a fine reminder.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Brian.
It is also a view of a fine day being enjoyed by the citizens. I like it a lot.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Mary

merci du ;message!! lien rectifié! amitiés
Tom Wilson: Bon! Mercit, Jean Pierre!
A wonderful building and the whole scene is very impressive
Tom Wilson: It is indeed - still occupied by government offices, but I find in Wikipedia: "Once a historic residence of the Kings of Württemberg,[a] the New Palace derives its name from its commissioning by Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg to replace the Old Castle in the early years of his reign."
