This is a brilliant image, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ray
A very interesting structure...
Tom Wilson: There are some very old and interesting structures on the campus.
I really love that arch!
Tom Wilson: Pretty special, eh?
That's quite an entrance, Tom.
Tom Wilson: It certainly makes a statement.
It's so weird to look at an image and see that it is NOT now! We really do change appearance from one generation to another, don't we, Tom.
Tom Wilson: That's certainly true!

More peaceful days perhaps.
Tom Wilson: Not really, Chad - this was the time when the Grey Wolves - a violent Islamic group - were on the rampage. I was in Ankara on this trip and got swept up in a demonstration, and the Mercedes showroom that I passed every morning was blown up. There were soldiers on every campus in Ankara and one of the universities was closed because of threats of violence.

I suppose all these people run the nation now
Tom Wilson: No doubt some of them are in government.
Turkey has changed a lot since then and not necessarily for the better
Tom Wilson: It was pretty violent then, Bill - as I've explained to Chad: "this was the time when the Grey Wolves - a violent Islamic group - were on the rampage. I was in Ankara on this trip and got swept up in a demonstration, and the Mercedes showroom that I passed every morning was blown up. There were soldiers on every campus in Ankara and one of the universities was closed because of threats of violence."

I wonder how many of the students in your great picture are now in jail.
Tom Wilson: One or two I'd guess smile
They all would be our age.
Tom Wilson: Time really does fly!
I am impressed by the story this image tells of the 1970s in Istanbul - the clothing, so many women. Well done B&W
Friendship
Tom Wilson: Thank you!
Another fine mono image Tom, and a history lesson in your replies, thanks for that.
Tom Wilson: Glad you like it, Brian.
