Den Haag-Department of Justice

Lisbon is the real home of fado, but there is another variety sung in Coimbra, which is derived from the style of the mediaeval troubadors.  Here, the students sing of leaving the city upon graduating, hence the emotion in the audience.

This is an impressive facade, Rom.
Tom Wilson: A lovely bit of what we would call "Victoriana" smile
The different colored bricks make such nice patterns.
Very moving music.
Tom Wilson: Yes, a very attractive frontage - the song is about remembering the city where they made all their friends.

A fabulous looking building that we would probably call Victorian decorated gothic, or something like that, if this was the UK
Tom Wilson: Yes - a fine bit of architecture.

A fine looking building and the green of the tree works well.

The song is wonderful and professionally sung, which is always pleasing.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chad - yes, considering that the singers and musicians are all amateurs, some of the voices are outstanding.

Aye, the Coimbra fado. I was told in Lisbon that Coimbra fado is a different style and the students in the clip bear testimony. The three nights I stayed there, happened to be at the end of their binge week, before exams start. (They have a tradition of hundreds of years, where the students have the week before final exam free and they spend it on the binge, while wearing their official student uniforms for the occasion). So I missed the student fado and attended fado that was more the Lisbon style.
Tom Wilson: Yes, the Coimbran style seems to be restricted very much to the city, although, I've occasionally heard one song in a fadista's performance in Lisbon.
A beautiful building frontage.
Tom Wilson: Yes, a fine building - don't know who the architect was.
Love the clock and the little gremlin above.
Tom Wilson: Decoration we never see in these steel and concrete days.

the colors on the structure are fascinating
A handsome building. I loved the video. Even without understanding a word the emotion was very moving, I had a lump In my throat
Grand architecture...
