Magnifique heurtoir.
Tom Wilson: Oui, magnifique!!
That is quite an ornate Knocker Tom, you wouldn't miss hearing it I bet.
Tom Wilson: I imagine it makes quite a noise!
Goodness - that's really something!
Tom Wilson: A beauty, isn't it?

This delightful thing looks truly pagan to my eyes, a wonderful object
Tom Wilson: You're right, Chris - a certain pagan quality.

This is something else, Tom. I have seen many doorknockers but this one is outstanding.
Tom Wilson: Like nothing I've seen before!

A knocker to be proud of Tom.
Tom Wilson: A pity one can't buy them off the shelf smile
You wouldn't want to get your fingers caught
Tom Wilson: Oooh - it hurts just to think of it!

The goat, that almost looks like a springbok, seems to be eating the horns of plenty from the back end.
Tom Wilson: It does look a bit antelope like, doesn't it?
A very unusual one Tom, where can I get one?
Tom Wilson: Good question, Brian - I think you'd have to commission one from some artisan craftsman smile
That's pretty elaborate, Tom. I sure hope someone "important" lives there. smile
Tom Wilson: Well it's been in the hands of the same family since 1174 - most recently in the hands of a distant cousin of the previous owner, but still the same family. I don't think the present family is particularly important in any respect, other than having the lands and property, but the owner's wife is the daughter of one Willie Whitelaw, deputy Prime Minister in Thatcher's day.
Lovely patina and not many knockers as it is not worn.
