Auriol brothers.jpg

The two on the left are the brothers of James Peter Auriol (in green on the main picture from two days ago), the seated gent with the hookah in his hand is John Prinsep the husband of Sophia, one of the sisters.  James Auriol was an administrator in the East India Company.  I found the picture quite intriguing - it's a tea party outside, but the weather looks very threatening and I assume it would be quite hot and humid and yet here they are in tight trousers and waistcoats and jackets, shirts with high collars, looking all cool and collected.

Interestingly, the picture is on loan from the Dashwood family.

Interesting expressions... you wonder just what the conversation was?!
Tom Wilson: Yes, makes one wonder, doesn't it?

Yes...most interesting, Tom.
Tom Wilson: The little touches through including the servants makes the pic for me.

Keeping up appearances must have been challenging at times.
Tom Wilson: Indeed it must!
The detail created by the artist is very good, there is so much to look at.
Tom Wilson: Yes, one could spend quite a while looking at it.
It's a cut and paste job Tom. They were posing indoors with the air conditioning on
Tom Wilson: Yes, I did wonder if he'd painted indoors - no air-con, of course, just natives with fans smile
indeed, that is the power of art, Tom. unless this scene was based in one of the cooler locales, summer residences.
