Ravenna Mosaic

Part of one of the mosaics in the Basilica.  I struggled a bit with the lighting with my camera of the time - the Canon Powershot G2 - the series is now up to G15!

Your little camera did quite well! What a lovely mosaic - these always amaze me!
Tom Wilson: Ravenna is a virtual gold mine of these mosaics, Eleizabeth - an amazing place.
this is a magnificent mosaic Tom... and you captured every bit of its beauty....petersmile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Peter.
What a lovely mosaic Tom!
Tom Wilson: Just one of many in the city, Richard.

Looks like it is based on a Monty Python sketch, Tom.

I think Canon are up to G16 with that range, Tom...I owned the G1, G2 and G5, before being sucked into the dSLR vortex.
Tom Wilson: I see what you mean, Ray - I had a Canon dSLR at the same time and eventually wound up with the G10 before I sold both and moved on the the Fuji cameras, along with Panazonic travel zoom - with which I actually take most pictures!

Balthasar, Melchior and Gaspar - the supposed names of the 3 wise men that followed the star to Bethlehem.
Yes, this is the kind of setting that shows up the point and shoots. The other setting is when you need speed on the shutter, like when shooting birds.

I believe the shot is good enough to show what you wanted to show.
Tom Wilson: Thank, Louis - one has to work with what is available smile
It has done OK Tom, I can see where they got their inspiration from for the Scared Heart
Tom Wilson: They probably had someone go out to Ravenna and copy them smile
It looks like they are bringing gifts of home cooking Tom.
Tom Wilson: That fit's Ray's Monty Python scenario smile
Beautiful work...
Tom Wilson: Astonish stuff - and so much of it in the city.
