photoblog image Washouse.

Washouse.

In yesterday's image you could see that there was a small extension to the hut, nearest the camera - this is the interior.  I assume there must have been a rota for the use of the bath!

Reminds me of the days I spent in the bush in Madagascar 50 years ago Tom!
Tom Wilson: It reminds me of bath-time as a child - in fact until I married at 25, in a tiin bath in front of a coal fire, with the water boiled in kettles on the fire smile

Indeed - you could hardly get in it together Tom
Tom Wilson: Not even big enough for a friendly couple smile
those were the days, I am so happy I have a machine for this
Tom Wilson: Indeed!
Space enough to let it all hang out
Tom Wilson: He, he!

It would be a close fitting bath if you were sharing with your best gal [in the interests of water conservation], Tom.
Tom Wilson: Strictly one at a time, Ray smile
Yes it must have been in constant use Tom
Tom Wilson: It must indeed! My father-in-law's mother must have been continually boiling up kettles of water!
Children would fit nicely but it would be difficult for an adult.
Tom Wilson: Yes, indeed - bathing for my first 25 years was a tin bath in front of the coal fire, where the water was boiled (no hat water system) and the older I got, the more cramped it was!
I think that is what used to be called a slipper bath isn't it Tom, couldn't have been very comfortable.
Tom Wilson: I believe it is, Brian - more comfortable, however, than the tin bath I had to bathe in!
I like this - with all the whites hanging!
I especially like the hanging clothes...
