Oslo - The Royal Castle

Apparently, it is the only royal residence in Europe that is surrounded by a park open to the public.

A lovely composition Tom. It says something about the Swedes that although their prime minister was shot in the street, in the 1970s, (I think) they feel secure enough as a nation not to plant walls & soldiers around this palace.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Chris. This is Norway - but your comment applies just as well smile
I like the soft yellow, like in Scandinavia is found a lot
Tom Wilson: Yes, they do favour it.

Looks big enough to house half the country's population, too, Tom.
Tom Wilson: It would be a trifle cramped smile
This Palace is a beauty Tom! I quite like the simplicity.
Tom Wilson: Yes - a very simple design but very imposing on its hill above the city.
A fine building, no doubt there is plenty of security about if one tried to get into places the public aren't allowed though.
Tom Wilson: Oh yes - there are ceremonial-type sentries on the gate - just like Buckingham Palace.
I would have guessed this was a school.
Tom Wilson: Well - there you go! Not as ornamental as a palace should be, perhaps?
it's very plain for a castle Tom... but i'm sure that it's not as drafty as the old ones....petersmile
Tom Wilson: The Norwegian (and Swedish) word is "slott", which seems to be used for anything from a manor house on up - on the notice boards with English on, they translate it as castle - I'd call it a palace myself smile
