There is neither fence, nor gate, Tom...why do you fancy it is a gatehouse? smile
Nice, Tom, I like gatehouses.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Frank - you'd better explain to Ray smile I liked the way it was lit by the evening sun.

Hopefully it's occupied Tom
Tom Wilson: Nope! I suspect that it was only ever a kind of porter's lodge, rather than a house - this part of the Hall's grounds has been given over to private housing development. Not, fortunately, the usual Barratt estate kind, but very nicely designed properties.
Very grand portico for such a modest dwelling Tom.
Tom Wilson: The original owners of the Hall obviously thought big, Chad smile
I quite like the columns here Tom!
Tom Wilson: Yes, they are quite in scale, I think.
I agree with Ray, why is it a gatehouse
Tom Wilson: A gatehouse is a small structure, although sometimes occupied as a house, which stands at the gates of large country estates - generally - although they may also be found at the gates of large city properties. They were there so that a servant, housed in the gatehouse, could open the gates for the owner to drive his carriage through or for "approved" visitors smile
It must have been in use at some time over recent years as it has a security style light over the door and porch.
Tom Wilson: It may well have been used when they were building the private properties on the estate.
It would be quite cosy with the fire going Tom
Tom Wilson: Very probably, Janet smile
