Standing on the sun - Zadar by night - 5

That's what these folk are doing.  This is an installation using solar panels to collect energy during the day and to release it randomly across the surface after nightfall. The three objects to the right of the picture represent Mercury, Venus and the Earth and continue out from the sun to Neptune - all to scale relative to the sun. The installation is by Nikola Basic and is called the "Sun Salutation".  It is at the end of the peninsula on which Zadar sits along with another installation by Basic called the "Sea Organ" - as a sound device it wasn't really suitable for an image :-)  However, you can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ9qX8lcaBQ and there's more about the sun installation and the sea organ here: http://www.neverendingfootsteps.com/2011/08/03/the-sea-organ-and-sun-salutation-of-zadar/

Clever her - it's unobtrusive but effective
Tom Wilson: And it seems that she is an architect, not an artist.
first instance of solar panels on the ground that i have seen. mostly they are set on higher levels to prevent damage, intentional or unintentional
Tom Wilson: It's well protected with a thick glass sheet.

I can see why this is attracting so many people. And what a find as long as they can protect these panels from being damaged.
Tom Wilson: Yes, there's a top layer of thick glass.
Quite clever! Fine capture Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Richard.
It is a wonderful thing. Do they get snow?
Tom Wilson: Not a lot, I think - because of the sea - once over the mountains to the east, it's a different matter!
This is a wonderful project to illustrate the power of our sun Tom... this is a great photo of the people on the sun with the harbour behind them....petersmile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Peter.
