Copacabana 1979

On my 1979 trip to Brazil I stayed in Rio on three occasions, once on arrival, once half way through, and once on the way out, staying at the same small hotel each time. The hotel was not on Copacabana beach, but it's breakfast room at the top of the building overlooked it - this was the view from that breakfast room.  It was the Hotel Debret, which is still there: http://www.debret.com/english/

I think most of us would be very happy to have a view like this one Tom!
Tom Wilson: I certainly did!
I bet you enjoyed your breakfast with such a breathtaking view Tom!
Tom Wilson: The breakfast was wonderful too - all that lovely tropical fruit that I'd never even seen in the UK!
The first time I visited Mexico in '82. I did the same thing with Acapulco during the three week trip. Used the major city as a hub for further travel.
Tom Wilson: It's a good idea, I think, Mary - always knowing you have somewhere to get back to! However, most of the time I was just in Belo Horizonte, with people taking me around at the week ends smile
Now I have this song running through my mind... smile
