Survivors

Part of a street of old houses in Rio that show what the city might have looked like before these were dwarfed by the high-rise blocks of apartments and offices.  Another slide from 1979 - they have probably all gone now, unless the city put a preservation order on them.  Sadly, however, I think they have gone: the restaurant in the picture, "Leiteria Mineira", still exists, but the area in which it is located is now all high rise.

I can't imagine Rio putting a preservation order on this charming scene Tom - but you never know..
Tom Wilson: The restaurant in the picture, "Leiteria Mineira", still exists, but the area in which it is located is now all high rise - so I suspect they have gone.
It would be a shame if they have been swept away by progress
Tom Wilson: It looks as though they have gone, Bill: the restaurant in the picture, "Leiteria Mineira", still exists, but the area in which it is located is now all high rise.
I am afraid no preservation order would have been put on them Tom...What a pity!
Tom Wilson: I think you are right, Richard - the restaurant in the picture, "Leiteria Mineira", still exists, but the area in which it is located is now all high rise.
Kind of a bit Georgian look.
Tom Wilson: I'd guess fairly typical turn of the 20th century Portuguese - there are still occasional buildings like these in Lisbon.
