How the other half lives.

On the hill beyond the modern (expensive) apartment blocks is one of Rio's favellas - where the poor folk have constructed a shanty town.  The ironic thing is that those at the top of the hill have a much better view of the ocean than the well-to-do down below, who have a view of the apartment block across the street :-)

These houses hanging on the cliff are impressive Tom!
Tom Wilson: When need drives, anything is possible!
That irony immediately reminded me of the prisoners during the holocaust who were fed potato-peel soup. The captors had no clue back then that the most vitamins in the potato are those next to the skin/peel (from what I have read).
Tom Wilson: Probably the reason some of them survived!

I suspect Rio has always been a place of haves and have-nots Tom
Tom Wilson: Just like everywhere else, I guess! I can imagine that it won't be long before we have shanty towns springing up around our major cities, given the current government's policies!
And the favellas are under threat as the authorities want to legitimise these areas, is make them pay for the electricity they use, and then the developers will have a field day Tom.
Tom Wilson: Oh indeed, Chad!
Not like the rich to allow anything like that
Tom Wilson: I think they're planning on tearing them down so they can build more apartment blocks!
Here in the country, the animals at pasture have the best views.
Tom Wilson: In interesting comparison, Mary!

I know that those high living people in the slim area, also get a free ride to the ocean, whenever it rains a lot.

Most interesting way to show the contrasting living styles.
Tom Wilson: Indeed, it can happen - although I think that is mainly in the suburbs - here the hills are rocky rather than earthy.
Two worlds in close proximity...
Tom Wilson: One a constant reminder of the other!
this is a strong juxtaposition indeed, Tom. i like the green hues.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ayush - it's amazing that I managed to preserve some green - that usually turns reddish brown with the Agfa slides!
