Carving representing Nicholas Copernicus in the chamber of the same name - salt was mined in this chamber up to the mid-18th century, and Copernicus is believed to have visited the mine when he was a student in Krakow in 1493. The carving is in a block of green rock salt, by a miner, Wladislav Hapek, from 1973. All of the carvings in the mine were done by miners, only one of whom actually became an artist. Everything you see in the mine, is salt - apart from the timber supports, which are well-preserved in the salty environment.
