For some reason, I really like photos of these covers. Someone made the pattern to create that mould and cast it and ground it down and perhaps annealed it.
Tom Wilson: Yes, I always look for interesting ones, when I'm travelling.
> Nicely taken.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Jaquelyn.

It looks like it has a hinge, Tom?
Tom Wilson: It does appear so, Ray.

Hmmm - decode this little lot, if you can..
Tom Wilson: Well - helped by Google - Miasta Krakowa is City of Krakow, but what the abbreviations in front mean, I can't tell, and Wodociag is water supply - so we have a manhole cover for the water mains.

This is wonderful, Tom. I was in Krakow in 1987, a beautiful city.
Tom Wilson: It is indeed, Astrid - I was there in '86

I love it when manhole covers are so decorative in design Tom. I have posted some from my travels.
Tom Wilson: Yes, I look for interesting one's when I'm out and about.
I suppose they should be called personhole covers.
Tom Wilson: Only by the politically correct... which I am not smile

This is a fine subject of photography! I was in Krakow in 1987 like Astrid, the political change in Poland was felt.
Tom Wilson: Yes, I was there in 86 at the height of the Solidarity movement events - there was to be a general strike on the Thursday I was there and a man from the British Embassy gave me a card, and said, If there is a strike on Thursday, ring this number and we'll get you out! There were Russian tanks around every major city in Poland.
Fine detail... If I may make a suggestion to improve this good image... a little more contrast would bring out the textures...
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Larry - I'll bear that in mind for future use.
Nice to see such artistry going into to such a mundane item.
Tom Wilson: As you say, always good to see that.
