photoblog image Holland-Beach cabins

Holland-Beach cabins

Taken from the ferry as it was leaving the Port of Amsterdam at Ijmuiden - the Google Maps satellite view shows that this is an isolated bit of beach, next to a marina off to the right from this pic.  Behind are what I take to be WWII defensive bunkers.

i'm struck by how they all look alike

i think they should pain them all different beachy colors
Tom Wilson: Perhaps there's a local by-law that requires them to look alike?? I see that a couple of owners have tried to add a dash of colour smile
I wonder if they cost as much as in the U.K. ? These look quite substantial Tom.
Tom Wilson: I imagine that they are family owned and that they rarely come on the market. Actually, on the satellite view it doesn't look like a particularly desirable bit of beach!
These always fascinate me! Lovely shot!
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Elizabeth.
Ce doit être agréable si près de la mer.
Tom Wilson: C'est vrai, Martine.

Communal beach-side living with a reminder of not so friendly times. Those bunkers back there are rather scary things..
Tom Wilson: They are certainly biggies!
Very upmarket beach huts Tom
Tom Wilson: Indeed they are - upmarket families from Amsterdam, I guess smile

The bunkers that Ginnie and Astrid took us to see were massive and made Britain’s little pill boxes look like sand castles.
Tom Wilson: Yes, these are monsters - I checked the satellite view and it shows them as part of a "Bunker Museum". I imagine they were built by the Germans after the occupation of Holland.
I'm surprised they Dutch have left those bunkers there. Good looking beach huts.
Tom Wilson: Part of WWII history, Brian - a reminder to us of why Brexit is such nonsense!
Nothing like this in my part of the world.
Tom Wilson: Such cabins - or "beach huts" - are fairly common around Europe.
good shot of the rows of small houses along the beach Tom... the bunkers are a bonus in this picture....petersmile
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Peter.
