That is so beautifully wrought, Tom
Tom Wilson: Works of art indeed.

Very interesting Tom. These look as if they are modern faces dressed in almost angelic garb
Tom Wilson: I think the modern face has been around since prehistoric times smile
They are a miserable looking pair of blokes
Tom Wilson: Well you would be too, if you had to carry that load of silver around smile
Is this silver, Tom?
Tom Wilson: It is indeed, Mary - with a bit of gold.
Not that long agao there was a programme on TV covering the history of the Orthodox version of Christianity, apparently, many centuries ago, all of the icons in existance at the time were destroyed and what we see nowadays date from times nearer to now.
Tom Wilson: Interesting, Brian - I didn't realise that.

the light is nearly hidden against the wall
Tom Wilson: Yes, I couldn't get a decent image of the icon without it!
The faces look stuck on - but I'm sure it was innovative for the time!
Tom Wilson: I think it is the silver that overlays the painting.
Quite a thing Tom.
Tom Wilson: Typical Eastern Orthodox icons in this respect.
Really, truly, magnificent in it's design. Orthadox idolatry is an art in itself.
