Sheffield Half Marathon 2019-8.jpg

The race winner coming home about 100 yards from the finish - of course, the race marshall's car had to be in the way of the shot!  Jamie Hall, a former Sheffield University student, now back as a researcher, finished in 1:11:16 - and looking very fresh, in spite of the last half mile being uphill all the way :-)

Yes...he seems to still have plenty in the tank, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Yes, he's finishing pretty strongly.
I wouldn't have looked that good at the start Tom, never mind the finish!
Tom Wilson: Few of us would, Frank smile
Hooray for him!!
Tom Wilson: Indeed.
Bravo for the focus being exactly where you wanted it, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Thanks, Ginnie

His vest and the shop behind are complimentary colourwise..
Tom Wilson: He probably chose it for that reason smile

That is quite fast, Tom and this is a great picture of him. Odd that the car stayed with him, I assume everybody stayed behind the fences??
Tom Wilson: 3 mins 22.678 seconds a kilometre smile But to put it in context, Kipchoge's pace in winning yesterday's London marathon was 2 mins 54.357 secs a kilometre - twice as far and faster! The car had been ahead of the runners, but had to pull into the side when the runners were funnelled into the finish line.

Sucking in the oxygen to make the final effort.
Tom Wilson: As you do smile

I find it amazing how these really good athletes can complete their distance and manage to look ready for a follow-on.
Tom Wilson: Well, he probably regards this as training for the marathon smile
I see the intensity on his face.
Tom Wilson: Oh yes, he's motivated!
I don't know how they do it!
Tom Wilson: Just one foot in front of another for 13 miles smile
Actually while the car is a nuisance that you could do nothign about I rather like Jamie's reflection int he car bonnet.
Tom Wilson: A happy accident smile

I remember some of the early London Marathons has the race officials preceding the runners on the back of a milk float. How times have changed.
Tom Wilson: Indeed they have - this years had, I think, more than 49,000 runners! It must have taken an hour or more to get them all past the start gate!
