Sheffield-Millennium Gallery-2

There was an exhibition, in the Millennium Galleries, of Leonardo's drawings from the Royal Collection at Windsor.  It was very difficult to get pictures because of the low lighting and the fact of them being covered by glass - this is one of the few that worked.  It is, as you can see, a study of the proportions of the human head.  It dates from about 1490.

This is excellent, Tom.
Tom Wilson: Shows the totally scientific way in which Leonardo approached drawing.

No doubt it is beyond price..
Tom Wilson: The royal collection of Leonardo drawings must be worth millions! If not billions! No chance of them coming on to the open market to find out, however!
He obviously wanted to get everything proprtionately correct.
Tom Wilson: Absolutely!

My first thought was: This must be Leonardo - our newspapers and other media are full of information about Leonardo da Vinci this year.
Tom Wilson: Yes, it is some kind of centenary!

we had an exhibition of some of Da Vinci in Southampton's Art Gallery. I kept meaning to go but have probably missed it now. I missed the three months of Thelwell's drawing, too. I had hoped I would have more free time in retirement.
Tom Wilson: You might still be lucky, Alan.
